Had a few attempts at the Venice jetty of the pelicans flying............none were really close to me.....but made do with what I had. I exposed just to the right of the sun....took a few images with the sun in frame.....adjusted.......and then was ready. Ideally.....there would have been more haze and diffusion. I tracked the flight until it was just outside the sun......depressed the shutter putting the hammer down......and closed my eyes for about 4 shots until it was past. I have another image where I had to add canvas.....but the pelican was in a better position in relation to the sun......I like this one too....as it looks like Icarus is burning up.
Canon 1D Mark lll with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 800mm fir 1/4000 sec. at f11 and ISO 200. Cropped 50% to aid comp. Only added to the black in selective color and a hair of contrast...sharpened...actual sky color....no HS.
