I have been playing with separating the layers of black, white and grays so they were dimensional within the image. I converted the image to black and white using a gradient map and adjusted it in curves to bring out the different high and low points. I like the black and the white areas but am not too sure I have the gray in the right place...any thoughts? C&C it all you want...

I am not much of a tech person Julie, so I am probably not the best to critique, but I'll give it a try. I checked your histogram and the blacks and whites are spread throughout so not much more to do in that respect. I think you suceeded in getting your tones and the treatment almost looks like film to me. Would be curious as to your f-stop.

Jules, I thought I'd wait for the experts to sound in before I gave just my opinion. I like the dimentional look you've obtained, I also like the lights and darks . It looks like six different layers to me!
