Happy Holidays to all. I thought I would throw my attempt at motion blur in here to gain some pointers and knowledge. The gull is not the most beutiful of birds, and i wish his face were a touch sharper, so what else would everyone recommend for this shot. I did do a 10% blur on the backround, and sharpened the face and eye a touch.
40D, 100-400 @400, ISO 1000, 1/30 sec @ f/ 5.6

Dave, I like it .I think you did a great job! Love the BG -agree w/ you about face being sharper-but it's still very nice!

Dave you can darken the pupil a bit and will appear sharper Might just give it a little more space to move I like it a lot !!! btw you don't need any sharp parts for a successful blur !! It all depends on the image !!!

Thanks Denise and Alfred. I will certainly tuck that advice into my few active brain cells:). I see your point about not requiring sharp areas, as shown by your "Dancer" post above. A truly impressive image. My thought process at the time was it shouldn't fall into that grey area of " did he intend for this face to be sharp or blurred". It just seemed iffy and in between to me.
