airline carry-on for 500/4

I like the Lowepro line of bags and have a couple. Does anyone have direct experience with a Lowepro bag that will take the Canon 500/4, couple of bodies, couple of wide-angle zooms, flash etc and that is under the airline carry-on limits for length x width x depth.

John I have the Lowepro compuTrekker plus AW and have travelled with my Nikon 500 f4, D200 and D300, Nikon 70-300VR and Tamron 17-50 2.8, oh and my Nikon 600 flash kit with no problems. It fits in all the upper compartments that I have been in, in the US. And it fits at my feet on the small commuter between Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole.

or the airport security which offers the most room for carry-on domestic travel and is a roller for ease of transport through airports. ect.

I love the Think Tank Airport Security; it holds a 600 f/4 with the hood reversed, a couple of bodies, a flash, a 70-200 f/4 and a 300 f/2.8 with relative ease. I've never had a problem carrying it on, but I've yet to take it on a small commuter plane.

The TT Airport Security will not be allowed carry-on for commuter/puddle jumper planes... it would have to be gate checked.

on the commuter planes, you check it as you board the plane and then they hand it to you when to get off the plane. They don't put it though regular baggage claim.

John the Lowepro Road Runner will do just fine. I've had mine for years and love it. It comes with straps for a backpack but you just remove them.

Might want to check in Arties bulletin for info. He gets a ton of gear in his by removing the soft inside shell and wrapping lenses with wool caps, socks etc.

I just got back from Bosque using my Lowepro Nature trekker AW full og gear and they didn't ask me for a thing... However, I forgot that I had few AA batteries in my jeans's pocket and they asked me to remove them. That's all!

Maxis- The Lowepro site says that the Lowepro Nature trekker AW II (the only Nature Trekker they list) will take a 400mm f2/8 but doesn't mention the 500. I assume you can get the 500 in yours?

I have the AW not the AW II. I can fit my 500. Make sure you reverse the hood.

I still wouldn't want my gear to be checked that way either. I have watched them load commuter planes and have seen on several occasions suitcases, etc that was checked as you board fall from 8+ feet.
