A few years ago I bought a D2X only to find out Nikon had introduced a $5000.00 camera body that wasn't capable of Noise reduction at the higher iso speeds(Go figure)
The question: What, in your opinion, is the best Nikon for nature/wildlife photography OTHER than the D3? Your input will help me choose. Thanks in advance for your help. Jim

I think it is the D300 if you cannot get really close. I live in New England and a full frame would not do it for me - the birds are too small and far away. :(
But if you have in a place like Florida then the D3 or D700 would do.
Assuming you have good teles.

If you want the crop sensor D300
Full Frame D700
That easy:)

I agree, D300 is an excellent camera and the 1.5x crop is very useful. I find the focus points covering a larger area of the viewfinder useful too. I find the D700 useful in lower light situations with larger subjects. Both benefit from being used with the MD-D10 to achieve 8 fps and balance better with the larger lenses. If I had to choose only 1 body it would easily be the D300.

Remember you only get the faster firing rate with 12 bit ..... at 14 it will be painfully slow !! (D300)
