Now that I have the 300 2.8, and even if I get the 500, will keep this lens for sports and portraits, this lens is going to have a great nitch.
I have 2 monopods, and wondering if they will be heavy duty enough.
A Gitzo GM2540 and a Manfrotto 681B I believe they are each rated for 26 lbs.
Also when using a monopod do you use IS with long lenses or not. I know on a tripod you do not, but wondering if there is enough movement for the IS to be helpful.
Denny i use the largest Gitzo Carbon Monopod Can't remember the number but supports over fifty pounds.
I would leave the IS setting on, even on a tripod you should.
I thought the opposite was true on a Tripod, do you still use option 1 on a tripod or switch to option 2.Quote:

Canon says that IS Mode 2 should be used for all IS lens that have the new Canon IS that can be used on tripods. Am I misunderstanding you?
No Robert. I just do it wrong. It's been pointed out to me before, but I get good results using mode 1. So I stick with it. I'm not much of a tripod shooter, but I don't think you'll go wrong with either mode.
