I am getting a Mongoose 2.3 for this lens and am looking for a lens plate. Wimberly's web site lists a plate (P-10) for the 300 f4 but not for the AFS version. I would assume they would both use the same one but Kirk's website has a seperate plate for each version and they look way different. Does Wimberly make a plate for this lens or should I just get the Kirk one. Thanks

For lens plates that mount with two or more screws I like the Wimberley's just fine, but for those that mount with just one screw, like the 300 f/4 AF-S, I much prefer the Really Right Stuff plates.
Thanks Alan. Is this because of the 1 customised hole vs the adjustable "slot"? Other than that is there anything else that would make me get a RRS (I just ordered a Wimberly from B&H and might have time to cancel if I need to)

It's because the Wimberly lens plates do not have an end flange to prevent rotation of the plate like the RRS plates do. This is not needed when the plate uses two or more screws as that alone prevents rotation.
P.S. I just checked Wimberley's website and see that their smaller plates do have anti-rotation nubs so you may be just fine with their plate.
