This Merlin sat on the fence post long enough for me to stop in the middle of the road and get this image out the drivers window. The trees in the lower BG are about 1/4 mile away so they blurred nicely. Hope this will work for my first post.

Beautiful image. I love the expression of the bird and the sharpness.
The log fills almost half the frame. I wonder if it might be a more powerful image if cropped to remove some of the log.

Whenever I stop to photograph a Kestrel or a Buzzard they promptly fly off!! very frustrating:(

Now that's what I need......a cooperative Merlin. This guy is beautiful with good detail in a very simplistic setting. I might be tempted to crop a little off the bottom of the pole to put even more emphasis on the bird. Well done with this one.
Thanks for the comments Ivan, Jacqui, and Lana. I think you're right, I can get rid of some of the post and make a stronger statement about the bird. I guess I left it in just to make the aspect ratio more "normal".

Beautiful pose and excellent detail and eye contact. I agree with Lana about cropping some of the bottom. How fortunate he posed so beautifully for you <smile>

I like this image alot. I like the subject, the pose, the beautiful graduated bg, the nice even light, and the weathered perch. I would like to see a little more room on the left and only a slight crop from the bottom.

as other people said cropping a bit i think can improve it and if the subject was a little contrasty(i really used to take contrasty pictures) and the BG was noise less it would be a perfect one.. nice job !
