This is a very nice image. The colours are rich and the sharp detail is something else. Thanks for posting, Al. The only nit is the shadows at the top of the picture.
I am not a lover of square crops but thats just a personal thing, The birds pose and colours are great and its difficult to see how this could be improved upon-maybe as you say a slight look to the right
Dave
Alfred this is a beauty. Perfectly placed in the frame with awesome lighting. action, detail, coloring. exposure and the diagonal composition makes it for me. No nits !!! Love it.
The square crop works really well here. Great light, pose and colors. The reflection in the upper left actually adds to the image IMHO. :) A bit more head turn would have been great but I like it as is.
gorgeous image Al. Great lighting.
I love the light and pose captured here and th fact the bird is in the open.
About the bird turning the head to the photographer, in this case, I like as is. Bird in concentrating in the fine line he's walking on and a head turn may put him down in the water :)
Good point Fabs Didn't think of that !!!!.... becoming alligator chip can ruin your day !!!!:)
I like this a lot, Al. It's nice to see the entire bird. Those huge feet contrast so much with that beautiful plumage.
Beautiful shot, Al.
I could look at PG's forever. Intoxicating creatures.
Hello, Al. Personally, I find images where the bird is paying attention to his business to be attractive. His focus on the stick adds a sense of tension. Interest abounds here, the wet belly, the reflection in the UL, the slight wing blur, and the square crop, all add up to an engaging image.
Nice vibrant colour and direction of light here Alfred. I find your exif interesting, if I was faced with this opportunity I would have probably dialled f/8 at ISO 400 (in Av mode). What was your reasoning behind f/11 at ISO 640?
Wonderful pose and colors Alfred, I would love to shoot these beauties some day:D
What balance this fella has. Wonderfully captured Al.
Al very nice. I agree with some of the other posters that the focus of the PG's eyes on the reed adds to this photo instead of distracting. The pose, wings up, head position all come together to create a sense of the bird maintaining balance. Maybe if it was more of a static looking shot with wings folded the head position would have looked better turned a little more toward you. Only small nit would be to possibly eliminate the one offshoot reed that turns vertical at the bottom and breaks up the diagonal line otherwise created.
Very, very nice colors, bg and bird! No nits from me
Al
Knowing where you captured this one makes me really appreciate the image. Wonderful action and I love the light.
I love it just as is. I struggled last year to get some effective shots of these birds and never once came close to this image. The composition and action work together to create a very dynamic photo. I appreciate that it might be nice if bids always cocked their heads in exactly the right way but I don't think the lines of this photo would be as good if the head were turned. The color is great and I love those fabulous feet!
I think a square crop is fine for this photo. I don't see how changing to a more vertical or horizontal view would improve the photo.
Great behavioral shot as well.
A perfect capture if you ask me !
Thanks for sharing !
A stunning composition with the added impact of action. As you say " if only the head was turnrd slightly towards the camera......"!!!! Still a beautiful image - congrats!!
Great details and very nice colors!!!
Very nice image Al,
Love the rich vivid colors and composition. It almost looks like 3-D where you are there with the bird.
Congrats...:D
