Hi - what brand extension tubes does everyone use??? I take it Nikon don't make any?
Never having used them before - are they like a tele converter - in that you are losing quality and light when using them??
How much closer to they allow you to focus - I know it depends on the lens - lets say for example the lens has a minimum focusiing distance of 20 feet - how much closer with extension tubes???
Thanks

All it is is a hollow tube with some contact points that allow your lens to AF at a closer distance. I use the Kenko set for Nikon Cameras, work like a charm. Really have no idea how much closer you can get off the top of my head. The kit comes with 3 tubes... a 12 mm, 20 mm, and 36 mm. They can be used one at a time or all together. You just need to play to see how they work.

Hey Mr. Lance,
I have the Kenko set also. They work very well; I use them for my macro compositions...

Hi Lance, I have Kenko also and use them with my D200. When I use them behind my Nikon 80-400mm VR, I have trouble with the conections (I have to twist the camera body a little one way or the other to make contact for automation). You can focus closer depending on the combo of tubes you are using. This will be different depending on the lens that your are using and it's minimum focus distance. Actually, you do loose a little bit of light with tubes, but with telephotos, it is not enough to consider as a problem (with macro lenses, the light loose is greater and can be significant. One important think to mention is that with tubes on, you will loose the ability to focus to infinity, your farthest focus also varies depending on the amount of extension and the lens.
