Swimming Penguin Pano

This swimming Galapagos Penguin was photographed at Punta Morena, Isabela in the Galapagos on my recent trip with the Canon 400mm f/4 IS DO lens and the EOS-40D handheld. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1/3 stop: 1/2000 sec. at f/4.

With 8 folks in each panga (Zodiac) and the boat pitching pretty badly just getting a bird sharp and in the frame is a huge accomplishment. This bird was way up in the top of the frame so I went with a pano crop.

a truly excellent image Artie, I like the tones of the image, the seemingly uphill battle the penguin is in for while on its trek, to me this is more then just action, it is drama., I like the details, and the crop., sweet.

This is a beautiful image, Artie. Never seen one of these before. Great eye contact and I like the water around the partially submerged bird.
