My Mac G5 went into complete meltdown Tuesday late afternoon, power light won't even come on, thew my APC-Ups into overload, slap me in the face but I had neglected my backing-up. I have two HD's in the G5 with the 500gig Seagate as the main drive.
Big thanks, as always, to the folks at MacGurus, had to call since no PC no net. They told me exactly what and how to handle the SG drive to hopefully get my home folder off. Hey back in the day I was a fair hack with PC's but the Mac just worked and I was in major panic. Got all my info off and what the MG's folks thought would happen did, the SG went splat yesterday.
APC..Called them Wed to ask what could cause and OL situation and right off they said we are sending you a new UPS??HUH? Yep we consider that a failure. New UPS arrived yesterday. Claim form should be in the mail today, no I didn't ask for that either.
Apple, nice job! They got me a Mac here in two days and then a super tech guy worked with me to get my old home folder in place. Like I said my G5, except for a mem glitch last year that I figured out, has just worked so I have no clue about a lots of things Mac:o
Crucial, who explained to me that oh yea the Quad can be flaky with RAM, obviously the RAM doesn't go in like normal and they gave me several ways to do it. Long story on that, but the extra 4 gigs is in a working.
Seagate who can't not ship to PO boxes and can't ship to my street since USPS doesn't recognize it as an address. They are doing a special work-a-round and my new drive should be here Wed under warrenty. Another long story.
I was scared to death this mess took out my Cin Display, it is fine, yipee!!!! The 250gig HD is way past half full so not loading any software, so no photo editing for a bit.
I got really lucky alround. So while it doesn't seem like much I have big thanks to the folks that spent the time and had the patience to deal with a simi hysterical female and went above and beyond what I expected. Super thanks to Don, husband person, that had me 24/7 and never batted and eye when I ordered a new computer.
