I took this at the Alaska Sea Life Center last summer. I know I took it with the 30D and probably 85mm lens. I am really not at all sure about the crop. My feeling is that the stump could go at the very least. Any suggestions to improve the image would be greatly appreciated as I kinda like the bird itself.

Yup! The stump should go. The unusual face on perspective is a nice fresh presentation.

Was this underexposed and then Shadow/Highlight used to bring it up? It appears to have some sort of halo....but just around the wings. I'd probably crop this one in a vertical.....seems natural given the stump seems more of a distraction than anything. It would also be helpful for some more techs listed to get a better idea of how this was photographed.

HI Carole,
I think the stump is a huge distraction. You can always crop it vertical if you have the pixels available. I also noticed the bird have some kind of glow??

These birds are so funny (cute) looking!! Would love to see one! I too vote for a vertical presentation, no stump; and also see the "glow."
