Looks pretty cool Jon, is this the first outing for the lens? Wing plumage has a nice 'pop art' to it, clean BKG creates for the AF to look onto the subject well. FF or cropped?

This is really nice, John. Lighting and comp are great, and I like the painterly feel to the image. Eye contact is excellent. Blacks look a bit heavy, so maybe ease up on those a bit. Otherwise just wish the far wing was a bit higher, but it's still a really nice image as is. Bravo.
Hi Jon ... a well executed flight shot , the head turn saved this shot for you IMHO.
It does look good in terms of plumage detail and tones , nicely done .
Personally not a big fan of your chosen WB , everything is a bit on the more warmer / yellow side for me ..... i would play selectively with the WB to give the sky a nice blueish tone . matter of taste

Andrea’s, great minds :bg3:, I just sent Jon a note thinking it needs more blue, help lifting the sky colour too and offering more separation.
:bg3: .... sometimes we have a match on the color front of things
It’s the same as Paul B’s Juvenile SE, just a small tweak and things transform themselves, but let’s see what J thinks.
Yes, the BG seems is a bit dull-ish and could use a tweak in the blues on them...but having said this, I like the WB on the duck itself. Seeing the tip of the far wing would have been bonus. Good IQ overall though, and looks like that lens will be a good tool for you...always fun to test-drive new gear!
Jon, Pinnies are one of my fave ducks.
You captured this drake nicely. Really like the way you allowed the plumage details to pop. Even with the slightly away flight angle the head turn brings it all back.
I think the prior suggestions would help it pop as it just lacks a tiny bit. Overall, a well-captured subject especially if truly just a minimal crop.
