I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. Been busy the past week or so, so I was itching to get back to birding! Trying out manual with auto ISO. This juvenile White-bellied sea eagle was captured today on an overcast morning. Basic adjustments in ACR and Photoshop.

Paul that is really good, very well focused. Just looking at the data - did you not apply any +EV?
Detail looks pretty good, I think I would be tempted to boost the mid tones a little and maybe consider applying a little Texture just to give a small boost.

I like the POV and HA Paul, but not the rendition of colour/WB.

Paul, I totally understand fulfilling that itch. I've been out a couple times recently after weeks off.
I just love Eagles and always have. Would be awesome to shoot some non-native species like this.
You got the subject nice and sharp. I like the eye contact although a bit unfortunate the beak touched the shoulder/wing a bit.
The lighting angle didn't do you a bunch of favors, but you handled the shadows well IMO.
Jon's comments resonate regarding the mids range, a boost could be good. It does feel a bit flat and maybe could enhance the colors a bit per Steve. You could also possibly benefit from a pano crop here.
TFS!

Thanks all.
Jonathan: yes, I did apply +EV. Will look at the midtones/texture suggestion
Steve: I'm fine with both.
Brian: I'm fine with the beak/shoulder touch, but I have other frames, so will take a look.

Very neat overall. I love the catchlight on the eye. The bent wings offer interest with the point-of-view. I do see where Brian is coming with the bill - it's the bill tip lined up with the vertical line going down below it that makes it seem kinda lost there, but I do like the head angle per say, especially with the light coming from our right lighting up the face.

I actually like the pose and don't mind the beak touching the wing. I agree about the midtown boost, but tother than that, a fine shot in my opinion.

I'm usually not a fan of overheads, but the symmetry in the wings is really nice. I also think the even lighting works well; it gives the frame a bit of a painterly feel.

Hi Dorian. I'm not a fan either, but as you say, the wings save it for me. Cheers.
