Cape Francolin (South Africa)
Still wading through shots from my summer trip. Here's a Cape Francolin. I wish I had a better view to the red legs, but I can't pass up the view to the chevron plumage!
This was taken at Table Mountain NP outside Cape Town, where my wife and I were attacked by a troupe of baboons shorty after capturing this frame. My camera survived,
but I badly bloodied both legs in recovering my wife's purse after a huge male climbed into our rental car and tried to run off with it! The battle culminated when I slammed a
50-gallon metal trashcan on the animal's head; only then did it relinquish the purse. It was like something out of a movie. Three months later, I still have a huge welt on my
knee where I smashed it on rock.
