Hi folks ... new toy and went straight for some images to local park .
Got this male preening in dark shadow of the large trees ... so I want in tight to see how the lens performs in low light . Due to the surroundings the only possible option
Canon EOS R 3
RF 100 - 500 IS L at 500 mm
HH
F 7,1 ; Iso 12800 ; 1/1250 sec
man exp
Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2022 ; slight crop all around
Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting

Andreas, first, congrats on the new lens! I love mine and it sure comes in handy at times.
The reality of this image is quite amazing. Surely partly due to the R3, but that lens is a gem. Your processing looks dead on to me on all fronts!
The overall composition is nice, did you crop to vertical or take it in camera? Would be cool to see traditional options too.

Thanks so much Brian , glad you like it .
Just got the lens as the big glasses are still too heavy for me to handhold for more than a few seconds .... and I will go in October for a short trip to South Germany , just in case I see something .
Image was shot in vertical .
Cheers Andreas

have fun with the new toy!! The R3 (and R6) with their "low" pixel sensors really do offer great high ISO IQ. Fun to raise those like that eh! Nice preening pose here. The FG feathers take up a lot of oof space in the lower third of the image but the eye ans surrounding feathers a re tack sharp. I love the black feathers along the bill, very nice touch there.

Amazing result at such high ISO! I'm not a fan of the pose or composition, but it does showcase what the camera can do in the right hands.
