Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) juvenile

This young Goldfinch is still developing the red patch on his head, it runs from orange through to red over a period of time. I took the image in my back garden, he was taking a peep at an infinity pool I had just installed.
Just for information I applied very little (selective ) sharpening to the bird.

Great perch. Nice placement of the bird in the frame. Pose is nice as well.

Quite festive, all you need now is snow! Bummer it is molting face feathers, but still a neat individual and I understand it's going through the process of gaining red feathers. Good perch, BG is nice but wish the paler areas were green. All-in-all a good backyard bird image for sure - those are always fun to create!

Love the color and that popped up head. Bkg is sweet too.

What a great perch - the berries steal the show! Lovely composition, and I think the flat light really helped even out the exposure. Bird is alert, and head angle is perfect. Woulda been even better is it had a fully-red face. I am envious of people who can shoot in their backyards. I have a parking lot outside my door. Every shot is a battle around here!

Very nice perch and I do not mind to see a youngster on the same .... it is reality and no need to complain about being less pretty !!!
Nicely processed ... was it really necessary to add more sharpening to the subject ?

This is just super Jon.

I love just looking around this frame. I love the little berry imperfections, how you composed the crop to retain the blooms in the LLC, the varying colors in the background and man, that pose with a great view of this beauty in plane.

Hardly worth noting but that super bright spot in the middle just below the limb stands out a touch, but otherwise I'll just enjoy this one. A winner for me!

Colour and fine detail looks on point Jon, keep the WF, lovely.

Not a lover of the bright areas in the BKG, which you could address if you so wish, plus a tad more below? Never seen an orange crown in all my years, cool.
