Something of a rarity in UK apparently reported on average 2 times per year, it probably came from southern Europe or West Africa. This was taken in North Wales about 45 min from where I live.

Loe this species. The bird is gorgeous and of course, the ruffling adds. Two horizontal sticks detract for me, the one behind the knees, and the one that intersects the head.

Wow - love how the sharp eye stands out in contrast to the fluff! How is the eye and beak so sharp at 1/200 while everything else is shaking !
It was a calculated risk Duncan I have other images with a faster SS but I saw the ruffle coming to I dropped SS and pin pointed the focus point on the eye and at 18fps I reckoned I might get one at least. I do the slow SS quite a bit because I have the best image stabilisation and at 18fps it's worth the gamble, it doesn't always work of course but I regard it all as fun and enjoyment.Quote:

Jon, I like the action here. The head and eye are so dialed in that the blur adds for my interest.
Really like the setting here and the pose. Overall processing feels nice to my eye.
The brighter foliage going across in the darker upper section do take away for me and I likely would not have had the gusto to process this one but can appreciate the positives in it.
Sounds like a great oppurtunity. Nice of the bird to fluff up for you.
