Shot in the Turtle Mtns of Nd. I have tried shooting loons the last couple years. We only have a few inhabiting Nd along the Canadian border. Like every other bird in Nd quite wild and unapproachable. I did get a few shots this summer in June. Never had any young.
Shot from my kayak hand held. which I found added to the mix. I had a hard time getting focal points as I had maybe thirty seconds to shoot and bobbing around. Processed with Dpp 4,Photoshop,Topaz noise. Comments and critiques appreciated.
I was motivated to shoot Loons after seeing Randy Stouts beautiful images.

A nice loon frame. I do like all the water drops on the head. Light was nice as well. Just looked up the Turtle Mountains. Looks like a pretty neat area.

Sounds like a challenging situation. Loons vary so much in their acceptance of people nearby. Some local lakes here, they come in too close for a prime lens, others, can't get within 300 yards.
This loon is beautifully exposed, good control of whites. The light was nice as well, showing the varied colors on the neck, and of course, that great red eye.
I must say that the loons get to be a bit addictive as subjects, so be careful!
