Nuthatch

A new visitor for me and something I have never photographed before, the Nuthatch. Set-up for the Jay who works for peanuts, however this gate crasher thought about getting in on the action and have some freebees. Perhaps not the best/ideal avian angle, but happy to get a few frames of this species

Hi Steve, this one's looking a little scruffy like the Bobwhite I just posted. A little more head turn would have been ideal. Wonderful perch, I love the green background. Nice to add new birds to the collection. Thank you for sharing.

Love the talon peeking through. The barky perch works well.

Unfortunate the subject was looking away and would have loved to have a more direct/perpendicular sun angle.

Thank you Brian, agree on the head angle, but these guys are particularly fast it appears, and not very cooperative in the ‘HA department’, so I’ll take what I can. Ideally I wanted the body heading north and the head tilted up, the classic pose, but not to be sadly.

Feather detail on the face is great, and the knotty perch is cool. Agree with Brian about the head (and understand you take what you can get!) but also this think the bird cramped on the vertical axis. Subject is mostly-vertical and perch appears mostly-horizontal, so it looks like you had to split the difference. But that's all pretty minor against a really nice view of the bird.

Detail is great per ususal. I do like the light. Gives a nice 3D effect.

Hi Steve ... lovely shot and I fully understand your point shooting a " new subject" just what the subject offer .
Subject and BG are very good .... perch is what it is . Maybe making it more " neutral" in terms of tone/ contrast might help to temper it a bit .

When looking at the images ( of yours) from are R5 and MK III .... I rather prefer the MK III images in terms of finer rendition of details and sharpness . Just a purely personal thing .

I do too Andreas, but sometimes the depth of detail is just awesome on the R5, but it just comes down to the original capture.

I can only make my decision from what you post here ....:t3.... to make my favorite .
Too many variables ....
