Very nice one John. Sharp eye and nice head detail. Very similar to our Oystercatchers here, except the ones I've photographer (Pied oystercatcher) have a red eye with red surround. What is the lower black section in the eye?
pretty head shot, I like the weathered bill, it could go a touch warmer for me. I wish the shoulder and the wing was in focus too. not possible with the TC. I would have taken the TC off and shot this with 500 bare at f/9 to get the shoulder sharp too. you get fewer pixels on the head but it makes no difference for small size internet file like the one above

John, another solid frame. What is the blotch in the eye; a growth defect or some mud/other?
You do a super job with textures IMO. The oranges really do well in the otherwise very neutral scheme.
I think I see how you composed it, with the lower edge of the wing just above the LRC cutoff and I feel like that was wise here. The wing blur doesn't bother me a ton as everything draws my eyes inward.
Nicely captured!

Overall i do like the tones and colors .
Hope you are happy with the 1Dx III

Very nice frame John! Love the yellow eye and the orange pops off the screen. I am also fine with he wing OOF. Honestly I didn't even notice it because I was drawn immediately to the eye until I read the other comments. Nice work!
Most oystercatcher species have irregular pupils. DATCA. R5 kills 1dX III ...
