I was up the 'Grouse Glen' last week looking for Red Grouse, when this SEO arrived on the scene....First time I have seen a SEO at this location...Hopefully they are here to nest and be successful...This was early morning first light...ACR, Topaz DN, PS2021....

I'm green with envy. I tried many evenings this winter and never saw them until it was too dark to attempt a shot. This is a great flight shot, but it's the sense of habitat that enhances the image for me. Nicely done.

Very nice indeed Will, love it as is. Just an idea try a little Dehaze WDYT?
The feel here is just eerily cool. Love the habitat and the dramatic bkg. Were there some shimmers/atmospheric distortion on the ground? Interesting silhouettes and blurring around the grasses.
The subject is gorgeous with very nice wing position. The bit of punch really helped.
Looks like a custom crop? I think a traditional 5x7 or 2x3 bringing the subject up into the upper 1/3 more might improve viewing a touch.
Really nice capture Will, a lot of bit of envy from my seat!

100 out of 100 .Great capture . But the background makes such a wonderful photo in the wild which I love to see on this sight from time to time. I would be interested to see if you have a frame with the grasses [both green and dry] sharper.

I am so jealous!
What a wonderful capture.
The dehaze really bumps up the contrast nicely.
I really like the purple BG- makes the owl pop.
The grasses below have a "different OOF' look- ? heat shimmer/atmospheric distorsion? It doesn't
matter anyway because it looks very nice.
Well done!

Love the owl, love the flight pose, love the BKGR, love the SH, and like the repost. In a perfect world the owl would have been higher in the frame, completely set against the dark BKGR (rather than intersecting with some of the grasses) and, the bird would have been back in the frame, more to our right.
With love, a

The owl really stands out in that setting. I do like the darker background. I could see it cropped from the right some more.

Always a good day when a Shortie makes an appearance!. Lovely wing position, pin sharp, great extra interest with the grasses, just wish she was a little further back in the frame

Thanks for the comments...much appreciated....Hi Brian...I don't know what the shimmers/distortion at the bottom is, but yes, I see it...... Hi Artie...took your advice and got a frame where the bird is surrounded completely by the purple heathers....

Hi Will ... pretty cool shot .
I do like the inclusion of the habitat a lot .
Nice overall color and tones ... no need for the dehire thing , IMHO , I can greatly live with the OP .
Flight pose is working well for me .... and I do prefer this image over the second posting , as I feel the habitat is nicer .
I do not mind that the SEO is intersecting with the grasses .

A cool frame Will and yes to the suggestions for the subject in frame, but might be worth next time going a tad more on the ISO (3200) to gain that SS, don't get caught out...
