Ann chose the common eider for our Iceland show and tell.
The female is rather plain but is still lovely in an understated way.
Canon 1 DX1, 600mm v.3 and 2 x converter v.3
ISO 1250 F 9SS 1/1600
Crop to 80% FF.
PP: Crop, usual LR sliders, Topaz AI clear on low setting Luminosity mask to BG water and bumped up the saturation of the blues in the BG.
Converted to JPEG which required a reduction in quality to 8 to meet the BPN sizing requirements.
Cloned out an extra catchlight.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
Gail

Nice pose and great detail in this up-close portrait. Lovely Icelandic light. Well processed.

I like the wet feathers and how the ends come to a point. Also, the POV, HA and the lovely colors against the pale BG. Nice eider!

Psychedelic details! I like the water drops strewn about here and there. I kinda wish that white area in extreme lower right corner was not there, but the rest of the portrait is so strong that I can overlook it:S3:.

Dead solid pose in the nice soft light. This would have made a nice vertical. I know easier to say after the fact.

Man is this sweet girl sharp Gail, wow!
I almost thought there was too much sharpening at first but I gather that's just the appearance when their feathers are wet. So cool.
Knowing how awkward you (and I) find these comps sometimes I'm glad to see you giving it a go. On this one I might wish for a tad more below but it's a well processed image in my book!

nice low angle, like the water drops. I also find the image quite a bit over sharpened. I find that I need to sharpen wet ducks less or they will look over sharpened and crunchy.

Here is the unsharpened JPEG!
WDYT?
In previous post I used Smart Sharpen at 5%.

It’s not the opacity amount Gail, more the input amounts, especially if you go to advance with Smart Sharpen.

repost a bit better but still looks over sharpened on my NEC.

The repost of this sharp image looks fine on my MacBook Pro. I love the feather pattern on her back. I wish only for a bit more room below.
