Iceland, 2016. We came across a pond hosting a family of these handsome Divers including two chicks. They tended to keep their distance, but one would occasionally drift closer. This was shot at about 10:30 PM in that lovely evening light that Iceland is famous for.
They are such delicate loons compared to our common loons. The soft light gives a nice display of the feather detail. The flowers in the background are just soft enough to add without being distracting.
I know it was late evening light, but does a bit of a greenish cast to the light. I could see just a bit of tweaking there.
Def. on my. bucket list. Thanks so much for sharing.
Cheers
Randy

Light and colors look just fine to me. Super-sharp and super-sweet. if it were mine, I would lose all of the small reeds on the level of the bird's head and leave the ones near the upper frame edge ...Love the head angle and he pose.

love the light and the low angle, very pretty. looks like a big crop, not seeing a whole lot of details, especially in the head/neck area... maybe pushing that vintage camera to the limit but I guess there was no D500 in 2016....:bg3:

Well done Bill, the light and setting really showcases the loon.

Bill, very pretty. The light is rich but the canvas creates a good bit of emotion - almost soothing. Touches of blue in the wake provide good contrast.
The composition is fantastic and I love how the subject's head fits nicely between the bright glimmers in the background. On that note, those glimmers are very artistic and I'm glad you left them here.
