What a beautiful bird, I don't think I've seen this species before, thanks! Great details, colors and eye contact. I wish for a bit more DOF and would remove the light bright patch in the lower right. Keep them coming!

I know I've never seen this species before. Great eye contact, and I love the mouthful of food. Sharpness in the head is excellent, but as Axel pointed out, a little more DOF would have helped here. I would remove the light area in the RLC also. Thanks for posting!

Hey Phil, thanks for sharing this beauty with us, what colors! Is the tail this short always or is this an accident in this particular bird?

Agree with previous regarding the dof but do think is one fine image as presented Particularly like the strong eye contact !!!!

Good image. I was shooting in Selangor, Fraser's hill and other areas in Malaysia this year. I know it is difficult to shoot this one. I agree with Axel about the patch at the lower right side. I like the eyes. I some how don't like the flash on the tree bark. The lovely bg colours and that of the bird work to its advantage

I don't mind the DOF in this case. Very beautiful bird. I'd be tempted to see less BG and more tree.

Wonderful image, full of colors and action. It is amazing that we are so far away, and here in Central America we also have Barbets, and yes, they are very colorful and pretty.
I am attaching an image of a Red-headed Barbet female, yes I know, is not a great picture but just to prove that they look alike a lot, just look at the chest and belly.

Thanks all for your comments.
Juan Carlos - Barbets are pretty as well as colourful too and that's an interesting shot of the Red Headed Barbet that does not exist these parts. We have the Red-throated and Red-browed though.

A really great picture, the fill flash worked to perfection and to get that sharpness at 1/100 is exceptional. Spectacular species as well!
