Witness to fledging in 4 sightings over 3 weeks; 1st sighting: Chick follows mom closely and takes food fully prepared by mom. When approached runs immediately to mom. 2nd: Chick follows more casually but still runs over to occasionally get prepared food from Mom. When approached, will not abandon food even though Mom has moved to safety and is calling. 3rd: Separate from Mom, catching and preparing food on it's own. When approached Mom nearby (in reeds, not sighted) immediately called, answers but does not immediately move to Mom.
4th(pictured here): Far from Mom hunting and preening on own, Mom does not call when I approach. At sunset, from far away, Mom calls to chick, chick answers and casually begins to head back home. Assumed still spends nights with Mom. Pretty fascinating to watch such reclusive bird's behaviors.
Thanks as always for very valued inputs on previous posts. Please keep them coming.

Elegant pose and you got just enough of the eye to make it work. Lower would have been much better ... I'd lose the single white o-o-f flower lower left along with the very light stalk just to its left.
with love, artie

You almost got a heart shape here! Yes to lower (I know it is not always possible). Good on you to study the four chicks' differing behaviours:c3:.

I have to echo Artie's critique 100%.
Love that preening pose.
I would boost the blacks in the neutrals as well.
Very nice image,

Neat pose. Really like the feather pattern on these birds.
