Super nice, lots of detail in the darks from what I can see Dan!
Curious how much crop on this one?
Brian, big crop, too big really.
Here is Raw. Underexposed. Should have been at 1/5000,
not sure why I wasn't, I tried to be and thought I was.
Shooting Martins is a lot of fun.

Dan, you are the BIF man. Perfect EXP and wonderful details given the speed of the subject and size of the crop. TFS
ps
I even like the raw FF if not for that one OOF branch below this beauty.
"So you might have gone 1/5000 and maybe Ev +2/3 or +1 at the same ISO?"
I would have just been at 1/5000, Probably would not have adjusted.
I was in pretty good light as you can see from catchlight.
I shoot into beautiful green BG, I am not sure why these are underexposed.
Next time I will bump up iso. You can't shoot any slower. I tried a bunch at 1/3200, not
fast enough. I was lucky at 1/4000.
They are fast, I was prefocusing on the pile where they flew
out of. Just shoot fast and hope for best.
My 300 f2.8 lens picks thing up, even with extender.
I also shot with my 500pf, could get some, but not as many keepers.
I get lots of sharp ones, but crazy poses.
Well done, not an easy subject for sure, the wings down could not have been better.
I like the flight angle, composition, exposure and IQ is pretty good for such a big crop. Very well done Dan.
Ha! I had not seen this Purple Martin before I posted my group-shot of them. Anyhow, it works well, big crop or not. Man, that white streak below the bird is bad luck.
Quite nice large crop or small crop.
this is killer Dan, love the pose and the wing position. the IQ held very well
