Hi all
I will be going west soon for a pelagic trip out of Washington State. I was wondering what you would suggest to buy to protect camera and lens from ocean spray and/or rain? But also need to still be able to shoot hand held. Will be on the water for 10 hours. Last time I went out, I had to send camera to Nikon for cleaning, to remove sea salt from spray.

Paul check out the cover from ThinkTank It is the most usable/waterproof around All controls will be usable. Have one on order.
I was using Raincover before Not bad Lots smaller easier to take along and less expensive. Have one of these tied to my tripod 24-7 but when I know there will be water going for the other is the best option.
I wonder how the think tank differes from the Temba rain covers?

I use the Tenbas. They have a clear plastic window so you can have everything zipped up and still look through the viewfinder.
It would be nice to have a cover for a full Wimberly and for a sidekick and ballhead, especially in dusty environments.

I'm not familiar with the Tenba but the Thinktank has an eyepiece so you actually don 't have to look through the plastic !!

Alfred I'd be interested to learn how you like the ThinkTank, it retails for $150. + $35. for the eyepiece, which is a bit less than the Aquatech Version at $210.+ eyepiece. I'll have to see if anyone is selling the ThinkTank model in Canada...if not will look for it on drive out to San Francisco in early August. Thanks Roger will also look at Tenba, maybe you can point me to a Gunnisons Sage Grouse, one of the birds on my list to see...lolol..will probably start in Gunnison, Colorada

I use two Aquatechs, one for 500/600mm lens and one for short zooms. Love them, have shot a bunch of images I never could have got without them.
Paul, I don't know specifics about the Gunnison sage grouse. I do know people protect the locations pretty well. Perhaps the local Gunnison bird club could help.Quote:

It is one of the better rain covers in my experience, but also about 50$ or so. It has worked wonderfully rain, mists, and other wet environs.

What lens will you be using?
The Think Tank is designed for the super-telephoto size lens. I have the Think Tank for a 500 F4 and it is very good. It also includes an extension for use with a 600 F4. It is a well designed and quality cover. Don't forget the eyepiece should you decide on one.

Just got back from another Alaska trip, my second this summer and had rain, salt spray, sea water,dew, mist, clouds and sun. My ThinkTank Hydrophobia cover and it worked absolutely perfectly. And it stores on the lens hood when not in use. I highly recommend it.
