Spring time burrough at sunset...

EOS R RF 24-105 @105 f4 1/800 ISO 500

Due to the pandemic the local park closed all activities (RC Airplane, Truck, Dog Park etc...) but stayed open for use of the green spaces only. This left the RC airfield, with many burroughs, open for birders. Since this is a short lens, it is about a 50% crop.

I have a question, if anyone knows the answer I would appreciate the info/help. After downsize, the last step is to sharpen for web. I do this to look right at 100%. When I post here the image displays at 150%(I think) and thus looks slightly softer. Is this because of the 4K monitor. Is this up size done by my browser or this website? At any rate is there something I'm missing about dealing with this at PP time?

Comical, looks like a little garden gnome. Great setting and light. Can't comment on your sharpening issue but what app do you use for PP?

nice find, a much more attractive subject than the clutter at the rookies. you had nice light too, and I like the low angle but I do wish the eyes were wide open, looks like a sleepy owl!

As for sharpening this image isn't tack sharp to my eye (my screen does not have scaling), it is lacking in fine details. I had the Canon 24-105 lens a decade back when I had Canon a...it was a mediocre lens, you have cropped the image a lot too so it is not going to be sharp no matter how your process it. While it may look sharp to you, the lack of detail is immediately evident to someone who has photographed these owls before.

What you are referring to is called OS scaling. Windows scales or "zooms" the content on high resolution monitors so that the fonts look larger and more readable . You can turn scaling off to view your images at 100% . it is in the display settings in control panel . If you use a Mac there is no way to turn it off and depending on the screen you have the images may look pixelated in the web browser, you have to open them in a program like PS to view at 100%

For sharpening I use Smart sharpen. All processing is done with DPP and PS. Thanks as always for your very valued comments.

Yes John, the head down inch by inch army crawl got me there. I hate to ever stress these beauties, but the very last inch was too close and this beauty shot me the "not sleepy but back off squint". I got this frame and backed away. Thanks as always for your valued comments and critiques.
