Grebe

This was taken on Lake St. Clair in April of this year. This guy popped up right in front of me and was a bit surprised I was there. Love the eyes on these little guys. Hope you enjoy the image.

Good capture of this Horned Grebe, Jim. Like the alert pose as he realizes his proximity to you. Nice water droplets on head and back.

That is a little beauty Jim, as you say the eye really does have it. I don't mind the composition but when I look at it I wish the head/neck wasn't quite so centrally positioned, maybe a little more canvas on LHS and just maybe a tad off the top??

I think you could add a bit of saturation to this image and maybe a little bit of punch to the image by adding some blacks in selective coloring.
I am happy with the comp but wonder if a tiny bit of CW rotation is needed. I know the bird is moving away from you slightly so it could be an optical illusion but I would still try a bit of rotation,

Lovely shot, Jim. To my eye the rotation looks OK, as does the crop; although I could also imagine a pano with a little off the top and bottom. Gail's suggestion about giving it some punch might be worth a try; or maybe a small % of Tonal Contrast. But that's a personal preference. Looks fine as is.

Agree with the others. That red eye is awesome.

I love these guys, but do not see them nearly often enough for my liking!! Great head turn as it swims away. I like Gails' suggestion of adding to the blacks. for some added punch.
