Manual exposure pattern metering
Cropped from horizontal, slight CW vertical rotation, added about 1cm canvas to top.
NR to BG, lifted exposure on the bird, some S&H, light sharpen to grass and bird separately.
I have to say that I absolutely love the bird's pose! Sharpness looks good. There seems to be a magenta cast to the image. I can also see a patch of blown highlights on the bird's right wing. Good call on adding room above. I would also suggest a crop ratio of 8x10 for this picture if that's ok with you. I think it would give the bird more room overall and there'd be no need to add more canvas.
Great pose and details, good view of the spur on the far wing. Your southern race with the black on the shoulders looks more distinguished than the one up north.
Aditya, the overdone whites you refer to are my PP mistake, thanks for pointing them out, but don't see the magenta.
Greg, yes they are different, also the wattles are much larger in the far northern birds, at least those I have seen up at Weipa.

Terrific view of this Lapwing. Love the pose, and I'm fine with the comp as presented (with the added sliver of canvas), but I could imagine a version with just a bit more space on the right.

Comp is nice, head and face tack sharp (very cool bird BTW),
Whites on the edge but look OK to me.
This is a great pose and view of this beautifully bizarre species. I also like how we can see through the secondaries on the right wing - it's very different. Right underwing is hot as noted previously, and the bird could use a bit more room all around but particularly at left. I feel the image cold be warmed slightly, but color casts are not my strong-suit as I struggle with them myself!
Great pose and the comp works well.
Pity about the blown whites.
I like how well you can see the spur and the "wild looking eye".
Nice that you got a bit of a view at the feet.

I love the dynamic pose and the colors, wish we could see a bit more from the top surface of the far wing. I'd back off on NR and sharpen the primaries a bit more
