This image will elicit a love it or hate it response, but I am having fun with trying different stuff.
Iceland June 2019
This fulmar was resting on the edge of a grassy cliff. I positioned myself to get the red barn in the BG.
Canon 1 DX 600mm v.3 and 1.4 x v.3
ISO 1600 SS 1/2000 F 7.1
Crop to 80% FF. Nothing added or cloned. NR to BG.
Will look forward to the reactions from you guys!
Comments and crititiques always appreciated and learned from with thnaks,

Obviously the BG looks a bit fake and out of place, but for me, the unattractive
grass FG is the problem with the image.

Definitely different but I like it! I like the drop of water on the beak and the details look good. The water on the grass is nice too. I wonder if reducing the contrast a little would help as I find the grass just feels a little heavy. Always fun to try and see some different stuff too. TFS

Good to try something different. I don't mind the red barn - it adds an interesting and different element. ( I tried something similar last year with a Herring Gull flying past a red warehouse in Norway.) The Fulmar is beautifully exposed and the drop is a nice touch. I'm not crazy about the oof grass.

Very nice Image. I like the image design. Background looks really nice.
Water droplet on the beak is also nice.

well Mr. Fulmar posed beautifully for you and that glistening drop is a bonus. Very cool color combo with the barn color in the BG. Nice glance, every feather sharp and EXP is smack on. I like how some of the grass has the deep reds mixed in. I'd be tempted to lose shy of an inch of grass and maybe level bc the BRS has a bit too much oof grass and the dried yellow grass doesn't add to your image INMHO, but indeed quite nice Gail, good for you to strike at an opportunity.

I rather like it as is. Perfect head angle, neat water drop. I'm OK with the barn colour. If anything I'd likely lighten the reflection in the eye (or create a subtle catchlight) to give it more life.

Gail, First off I don't mind the barn it adds some interest and contrast to the bird, and the drop of water(?) is also a plus.

The bird is outstanding! Lovely look, exposure, and details, and the water drop is the perfect touch. I actually don't mind the grass in the foreground
as this is clearly a natural and in-habitat shot, but I'm not sure what to think about the barn. It makes for a really, really pretty image, but is nonetheless
a human-made element. I'm completely torn here; I like these sorts of shots, but I won't take them myself! It's all a matter of personal preference.
The view of the bird's complex and highly evolved beak is just wonderful.

I'm with Daniel here Gail. Love everything about this image. Nice to see something different. For me the grass/BG does not detract from the bird at all. On my laptop the top of the bird's head is slightly blown out, but that may just be the viewing angle. Iceland seems to have lots of great bird opportunities. TFS

I think it looks refreshingly different, the fulmar is exceptionally good. I don't mind the background and the grass itself is fine but I think it looks just a little rich, if it were slightly less so I think the eyes would very quickly remain at rest on the fulmar.

I love everything about this image including especially the BKGR, the perfect head turn, and the big drop.
