This was taken recently. Had to use flash as the light was very low in this rainforest. Chose this crop due to many distractions on the RHS. Cheers.

Paul, interesting bird, nice details where you got them, I wish you would have used a higher f-stop and bit more room on the right. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tim. After posting I was going to edit my comment, adding in hindsight that I should have used a larger f stop...so it's good that you centered on the aperture and crop. The raw file does have more room to the right, but as the background was quite distracting I chose the crop as shown (instead of doing major photoshop editing). Cheers.
Great bird Paul and I love those whiskers.
I would select the BG only and reduce the overall brightness.
And to answer your question I bought the new 600 v3 on June 3. I was very fortunate to quickly sell my old version 2!

Exceptional looking bird nicely captured, Paul. Would have liked the feet sharp, but by no means a deal breaker.

;Hi Paul, i'm in agreement with all of the above suggestions, and keep mindful of your dof, especially small birds, near birds... TFS
Thank you Gail, Geoffrey and Ann. I'll keep the suggestions in mind. Cheers.
Gail: v3 much better than v2?
Difficult birds to photograph, so a good start. Now to see the classical spread tail open wings pose that shows off all that lovely rufous color.
Hi Colin. Yes... the "classical" shot is what I'm after. I do have a few taken some years ago but they're not good quality. All in good time..lol
