From Lake Morton, Florida in March. He was perched on a chain link fence, and I was hoping to catch him taking off. I suppose when I decided to zoom in for a tight portrait shot I might have thought to lower the SS and ISO. But for ISO 8000 I thought the detail was pretty good.
Hi Bill, Would have never thought this was ISO 8000. Love the colors, details and composition. TFS

This is excellent Bill... Colors look good at that high ISO.
I assume you did some NR on the bird? I don't see much noise on the feathers so
I assume that is the case unless you have a magic D500 or did a perfect exposure which
may be the case.
Nice PP work.

Pleasing portrait. Excellent job on the processing. I regularly shoot my D 500 at iso-6400 to 12,800 and get similar results. A lot of people are afraid to go over iso-1600 with that camera. I also live in the Pacific Northwest and we have no choice but to shoot at such high iso due to the lower general light levels in the area, not to mention the rain and clouds that are pervasive

Thank you all. Yes, Dan, I did use some NR on the bird, but not much. I've been experimenting with Topaz DeNoise AI, which seems to work well.
