I like this better than the original shot but am interested in what you all think.
I cropped and desaturated the image; applied black pencil effect, followed by the buzz effect; then returned some color using layers and colorization. I then added a canvas texture and an edge treatment.
I'll post a small copy of the original below.

Your end result is beautiful! It makes me feel like I am watching summer vacationers relaxing on the water. Very peaceful.
I love the end result as well - way more interesting than the original. BTW, what is "the buzz effect?" Never heard of it...
Thank you, Carole and Julie. The "buzz" filter is a plugin that uses simplifying and some other effects for a type of painterly result. Unfortunately it is no longer available; the company that produced it went out of business.

This is great! I too like the finished product more than the original. I love to play with photo's to make them more creative.

Sharna, Fabs, and Nonda, thanks for the time you took to stop & comment. It was actually processing software that got me back into photography. Someone gave me PSP and Photoshop and I was just astounded to discover what could be done with photos!! Altho I don't do alot of "digital art," once in a while I create one I really like. I don't think the above is one of those, but later I'll post a couple of my favorites.
