metallic starling on nest
Metallic starlings migrate to Far North Queensland to nest in their thousands/millions in the wet season. Easy to see and hear them, but their murmurations near the nesting trees are before or after light, and the trees in which they nest are normally too tall for acceptable photos. But if you are in Cairns in the wet season you could see a flock large enough to take 30 secs to pass you by. I happened on a tree in Mossman which has a few low nests, not many with decent distant backgrounds. It is quite shaded, so used fill flash. The benefit this brings for these birds is that you see the green and magenta coloring on the glossy feathers that would otherwise not show in the shade.
