Never go out into the field looking for sparrows, but occasionally run across one worth imaging. Taken last February.

Very nice. Like the pose and the light. The details look pretty good.
Lovely light and good DOF and sharpness. Because the BG is mostly smooth I would be tempted to remove the faint highlights
Beautiful little bird nicely detailed and a good pose. The lower tones are rather heavy for me, I see little detail there, I think it would be an exceptionally good image if you went back to raw and lifted them some.
The bird is sharp and the EXP looks pretty good. I'm with Jon in thinking that it could do lighter. And ditto Colin on getting rid of those highlights. Overall this is too tight a crop all around for me and the perch is less than ideal.

I went back and looked at the raw file. I removed some in focus brush branches. I could make it 4X6 instead of 4X5. Bottom of image is the bottom of the raw file.
Nice capture of this individual, Jack. Excellent pose, detail, and good eye contact. Agree the darker tones might show a bit more detail if lifted a tad. Curious, do you have more room L, R, and top? I could see the sparrow a bit smaller with more BG. Of course this is a personal choice.

This looks really good. Bird is great and you can make the suggested tweaks to the frame as suggested above. Crop also needs to be loosened quite a a bit. He's jammed into the left edge as is.
