The processing here and the vertical post are vastly improved from your previously posted woodpecker image. Love the perch, the high key treatment with a perfect EXP, the tail against the trunk, the sharpness, and the contrast level.

Love the exp(for black and white), hi key effect and the vegetation on the trunk/branch just adds a little more. TFS
Classic woodpecker pose. Nice to get it on a small trunk with some greenery and also snow. However the processing looks way off to me on the 5k Imac. There seems to be a haze over the whole shot as well as a strong yellow cast. There are many ways to remove a color cast but perhaps the easiest is just to go to hue/saturation and select the yellows and lower the saturation until the cast is gone. I would also add a few points of black to the blacks and reduce a few points of black from the whites of the bird.
All, Is this a hairy or a downy?
thanks with love, artie
Hairy. Note the all white outer tail feathers as opposed to white with black spots on downy. Also note that the bill on downy is about 1/3rd the size of the birds head while one Hairy it is about the size of the birds head.
Thanks Isaac, That is a great tip on the outer tail feathers. As for the bill, I have not seen many of these guys and not a whole lot of downies either ... Though the tail differences are illustrated in the Peterson Guides there is no arrow! Sibley does point out the outer tail differences.
