Here's an old one from my Galapagos trip in 2010, dredged up for the theme. The Swallow-tailed Gull adult is a handsome bird, with a distinctive red eye ring. It is the only truly nocturnal gull, feeding only at night in the open ocean off the Galapagos Islands. I almost stepped on this chick hiding in the vegetation on the flat land above the cliffs of South Plaza Island.
