Dip Fishing

I captured this image of a Tri-colored Heron dip fishing at Circle B Bar Reserve in Polk County, Florida. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Nikon 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 VRII AF-S ED image captured at 150mm
1/2500 F/8 Matrix Metering EV -1/3 ISO 560 Auto 1 WB, camera supported by a monopod
Post processed in Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC 2018, Dollar Weed removed from reflection, ripples removed in upper frame
Cropped and canvas added on left side for composition and presentation

EXP, SH, Sun Angle all perfect. The view of the near wing is spectacular. I think that it needs more than a bit of CCW rotation ...

Hi Joe,

Neat fishing capture, and interesting how we can see the entire eye in the reflection through the splashed water, even the specular highlight. Great trailing splash from feet.
Only nit might be to bring a bit more detail out of the darkest blacks in reflection. Not a deal breaker.

Grat timing Joe, I couldn't tell off the thumbnail what was going on here - glad I opened it up! I love the clear look at the eye in the reflection , and a very interesting shot overall

Hi Artie, thank you for viewing and commenting. Looking at the image I am wondering what you see that would make it need a CCW rotation? Obviously I am missing something you see.

YAW. There are two ways to do it. First, try to imagine line that is parallel to the angle of the splash.That was my first clue. Note that I drew the line parallel to the pretty straight black line at the base of the center of the splash ... Next, the reflections never lie (when the water is calm). I drew a line from the tip of the fifth (very broad) primary to the tip of the reflection of that same feather. When I hit Image > Rotate > Arbitrary that one showed that the image needs about 6 degrees of CCW rotation.

Let me know if any of that makes sense.

Your timing was perfect here. Love that water splashing. The reflection is great as well.

Hi Artie, what you show makes perfect sense. I had always used either the eye or the tip of the bill lining up with the same in the reflection. I never thought about the tip of a primary but I will now. Thank you for showing me another way. Here is a edit and repost.

YAW Joe. I think that it still has a way to go to be level :( Try drawing a line through the centers of the concentric elliptical shapes in the water ....
