Rather than just go for a normal underwater shot for this months theme, I thought I'd try an old one with the water forming part of the overall scene as opposed to just shooting through it!
2 main species of fish in the shot, the ones on the left are big eye snapper, the others being red humpback snapper. Plus a few others scattered around the BG!
Canon 7d in a subal housing (said it was an old shot!)

Hi Mike - Lots to like here including the vibrant colors and the lighting. I imagine that shooting a school of fish is a lot like shooting a flock of birds but with the currents amplifying some of the problems. Ideally, I would want a little more room in front and a clean edge at the back of the school but I don't think that was possible since you were almost as wide as you could go. Interesting to see a few swimming in the opposite direction. I guess there's some in every crowd.:S3:

You captured the school forming fish behavior well , and nice to see the two species almost building their own in the full school .
Lovely vibrance and good tonal range , not bad for that old kit. Well done Mike .

Agree with rachel about the clean edges , but i bet this was very difficult to achieve .

Cheers Rachel, it probably would have been nice with a clean edge, just not possible on this occasion sadly. I would have only been about a foot from the closet fish in the middle - maybe they lost their nerve and turned. Or maybe they're just not very bright!Quote:
