Wow. He's got a bit of a sinister look ;) A little more parallel to the head would have gotten the tip of the bill in focus, but that is really minor. The colors in the water and the plumage are great.

Very cool! I would only fix the reflection in the eye...there is a dark spot right next to the pupil that competes with it (and the pupil itself could go a bit darker).

Good advise, Mike, I'd try f/8 the next time for an increase in DOF.
Enjoy tonight's weather ;)

Good advice as usual! :D I'll be thinking of you and Al tonight... green water and glass is the target... Hopefully a Loon family decides to join us. ;)

Very nice picture Mike,
I'm surprised to see that the Common Loon "yoodle" so low on the water...
Maybe a shutter speed higher than 1/500s, would have frozen the beak (unless it was the effect you would like to have)...
Excellent exposition and POV!!! I like the droplets on the feathers!
Great job!!

Nice closeup, Mike. Good eye contact. Also wish for more DOF.

Excellent details in this close up - especially the eye & around. Might agree with Fabs with regards to slightly increased DOF to get the tip of the beak sharp too.
