I spent some time Saturday attempting to get these birds in balanced positions when hovering...this was about as close as I gould get.

Great pose, fanned tail, eye contact and the open bill adds to it. I might tone down the whites a tad and sharpen the bird more.
Jim:
I saw this in your thread at Nikoncafe and thought it stood out more than the aerial combat you had posted here. I liked the aerial combat but this was much more striking in my opinion.
I am glad you displayed this one too.
cheers

Super symmetrical pose..open beak is a real bonus! Some clouds behind will make it even nicer..but i guess we cannot control dat.. :)
Awesome Iove it - like the contrast between the whites and the orange.

I would love to capture just one of these in this great pose. Nice colors and certainly sharp. So.......did you ever get the D300 situation fixed? I've held off switching to see what happens with Canon this fall....and what's your take on the Nikon D300.
Nikon refunded my original D300 purchase directly as the replacement bodies they were providing me with were out of the original stock which Melville had received last October, prior to public release.
I purchased two new bodies which were approximately 100,000 US serial #'s urther into production and I haven't had an issue with them.
I still believe the AF is underpowered processing wise for what Nikon's self proclaimed DX flagship camera should provide and I'm waiting to see what the D3X or whatver will be. Personally, I'm still not happy with the overall build quality as compared to the D2 / D3 series but this is what's available currently.
Thanks, Jim
I'm anxious to see what will come down the line.
That is just about perfect! Love the details in the whites and the open beak.
What a great shot! Nice eye contact, pose. Open bill is a plus. I noticed the tern has a band, I was photographing SK at Loxahaatchee this weekend, one of the kites had a color marker and mental band.
