What a wonderful family portrait. Love this John and it is a first for me. I have not had the pleasure of seeing BCNH chicks. Awesome to capture the whole family in such a lovelyly setting. Love it. If there was enough canvas for a tad more room at the top it would be good .
Very nice family portrait, soft light, details and interesting setting. Is the nest on a cliff and if so, how far up is it? I'm wondering about the chick's first flight attempts.
Judy, Axel,
Thank you both for the kind feedback. And yes, the nest is on a cliff about 25 - 30m above water. Haven't thought of how they would attempt to fly. I think they probably can crawl up to the top the cliff - probably 3 - 5 meters. That's at least how one of the herons approached the nest a few times. Should be interesting to watch though.
Regards, JR
Great capture, I have never seen a family together before. It does feel a bit cramped at the top and the plant behind the head of the adult on the left is a bit unfortunate. I love the colors and texture of the adults.
Awwwwww, first time I see their chicks, although seen many juvies. Lovely portrait and habitat included!
You've got to love those red eyes... Image looks almost 3 dimensional to me. Very nice family and habitat!

Lovely portrait John (except for those two ugly things in the middle :) ) Nicely composed and I like the little plant behind the head.
