Lonely Planet !

Hello everyone thank you for your C&C's on my previous post !

I was always amazed to see the Giraffes during my trip to Mara last year. They always gave me that feeling of prehistoric creatures roaming the savannahs , they have something abt them that i cannot describe in words. Saw this individual against an interesting cloud formation so i tried to capture the mood of the scene at that time , a flip of its tail made it a special moment for me .

DPP4, CS6 , levels, slight sepia look by increasing the yellows in this whites , added a slight canvas at the bottom .

Canon 1D MK IV , Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS II .

1/8000 sec; f/10; ISO 500 , eep -2 2/3

Well seen Haseeb, and nicely executed. I like the conversion, but am intrigued to see what the colours are like.

I would personally have considered an even more panoramic crop - there is a separation of sky between the clouds about 1 1/2 inches from the top of the frame. Cropping there would put the emphasis a little more on the Giraffe, and those beautiful light beams.

I love this image, I appreciate the point Mike makes but having said that I like the enormity of the scene. The vague hint of two ears and another animal head down has me looking again and again.

Hi Haseeb, I too, really like this and the way all the elements work to gather, especially the Giraffe on the LHS.

My only thought would be to have more separation within the Midtones so you start to bring more detail & tone back in. Yes, some parts of the Blacks and the HL/Whites are clipped, but you have brought some drama into the shot, especially going B/W, but wonder how close this is to the original capture, but using some 'artistic' license is where you develop the original capture. I think seeing the hills in the BKG slightly lighter provides more of that 'layering' look between BKG & the dark FG?

Very nice pano scape here Haseeb, with the giraffe anchoring the scene nicely, however I can't help wonder that this would be better suited to a colour version.
The rain shower and lighting so typical in the Mara/Serengeti just doesn't have the drama & mood in this B&W for mine.

Hi Haseeb - Well seen and executed. I like the balance between the tree on one side and the giraffe on the other. The light rays surrounding the giraffe really add to the image for me. Good suggestions above.

This is really nice Haseeb! I agree with comments made above, particularly by Steve, about lightening the midtones and just creating one or two more tonal separation layers?
I too like the rays coming through the clouds and the stark contrast achieved here through your creative license in processing.

Hello Haseeb! agree with the above comments this is a lovely piece of work ,I also would love to see a colour version of this,of course all a matter of personal choice.

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions on how to improve things. That is really helpful and I hope to build upon that , so points promptly taken . I love to read abt different perceptions of everyone , really appreciate your time and suggestions .

A marvellous picture, Haseeb in concept and execution.
I understand Mike's comments about cropping the sky, but I think as it is the lighter upper quarter makes the image less ominous which on balance I prefer.

A strong image, very inspired and perfectly framed IMO - you have managed to convey so much of the atmosphere at this given scene.
