I don't get to see this species very often, so I was pleased to come across this individual on a trip through Cranbrook, B.C. I found this bird in breeding plumage (a male, I think based on the gently curved bill) at the Elizabeth Lake Nature Sanctuary. Canon 40D with Sigma 300 f/2.8 with Sigma 2x. 1/1000 f/7.1 Evaluative metering with -0.33EV to hold on to the whites. Comments and critiques are much appreciated!

Nicely done. The image needs more room in front to give the bird a place to go and more room at the bottom for the virtual feet. Sharp with a nice catchlight.

Thanks very much Artie, Jody and Robert. My original crop after looking at the images in Adobe Bridge was as posted here now...when I was editing in PS, I got distracted by how pretty the head was and wanted to get closer...a mistake it turns out, and a lesson learned. Thanks Artie for reminding me about virtual feet! Is this more to your liking?
