I captured this photo of a golden-cheeked warbler a few weeks ago just outside of San Antonio, TX. One of the rarer warblers in the United States, the golden-cheeked is the only bird to nest exclusively in Texas from what I understand. I thought about trying to get rid of the leaf behind his head but then decided against it. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

I wouldn't hesitate about taking away the leaf, since it's shooting out of his head. The rest of the BG is excellent.
Congrats on an excellent photo of a rare bird! I agree with Fabs about removing the leaf. I might have gone for a little more flash and a little less + EV to tone down the BG a little, but I understand that sometimes you just have to go with whatever your camera settings are to get the shot; I just posted a flight shot at ISO 1600 with a shutter speed of 1/6400 :).

Thanks Dan for your work on removing the leaf. I'll work on that. It does really improve the appearance quite a bit. By the way, if anyone is ever in the San Antonio area around this time of year (mid March - mid July) I'll be happy to take you to where the GCWs are. I see them every time I go out looking for them.
