Another photograph from last week's visit to the Farne Island. Again taken in misty conditions that seem common on the North Sea coast at this time of year. Not a typical puffin potrait!
Taken with 1Dmk3 and 500mm lens at ISO250 F8 at 1/500s with evaluative metering.
Cheers

Very cool pose of this puffy puffin. :) It's a bit tight in the frame for my taste.

Puffins are my favorites so, you can't miss. This one appears unusually puffy. Nice exposure but, I too would like more space, he feels a bit too centered. That is not to say I'm not jealous of the image...

With this pose I don't mind the subject being centered, but I agree more room would be beneficial. I like the "holding its breath" pose :-) Looks like you had a great time!

I smiled too. A comic pose, I like it very much, as presented.

It is always nice to see subjects presented from different perspectives.

Hi Richard,
puffins are one of my favourites....
I love this one and I do like the tight composition in this image, although I don't like it too tight usually.
This one is really great!
Very well done!

Excellent comments above. Centered is fine with this type of image; where else to put the bird? And yes to more room. Great job with EXP and sharpness, and I like the soft misty light. Hope that we get some respite from the bright sun here in Gaspe today... It looks as it could use a bit of CW rotation. Try the ruler tool through the center of both pupils... All in all, I like it.

Great pose. He could be an emblem. :)

Many thanks for the replies. Adding some space round the bird may benefit the image as suggested. I was debating whether to undertake some CW rotation as Artie suggested but decided to leave as shot. It is easy to forgot what superb colonies of sea birds we have round our coast.
