Anna's Hummingbird. Shoulder stock/monopod mounted Nikon D200, 80-400mm at 400, f8 , 1/1600, ISO 400, fill flash - better beamer -2.0. This is from a series of shots done today with the one flash, a high sync speed (Thank you Doug Brown!!!) and the sun on the BG! The BG is a distant bamboo bush. I know that the wings are a blur, but it's not bad for a "non hummer studio setup" shot (Oops, did I just critique my own post?).

I'm fine with motion in the wings just wish the far wing had a slightly different position and that is just luck. Excellent pose and your doing well with the flash !!!
Nice capture with the equipment you had, however I think the contrast is a bit heavy. The birds breast is not that well defined in real life and the head is green if I recall correctly. I would also remove one of the catchlights from the eye.
I like the wing blur.. I find it more "natural".. it's like stopping a prop on a plane, it just looks wrong to me.
Thanks for the comments all. Regarding the plumage on this bird, this is a young bird in the midst of a molt which may be one reason for the contrasty look. He/she really looks that way. The lack of color is partly due to this molting and the fact that the colored feathers on most hummers are little prizms, refracting the light. The angle of the strobe nor the sun seems to have caught the light to show the proper color for this species, but I assure you, he/she is green backed and reddish throated.

Quite an improvement, I like the pose and details and agree regarding removing one of the catchlights and would also run some NR on the BG.
